The Wilderness Whitewater - A Classic day trip to the Elk, Bull or White rivers

The White River - May to Early July

This high alpine river is best when all other rivers are raging.  Tight, technical non stop action.  Perhaps this run can be best described as one long 9km cascading rapid, with just enough time to clear the water off your face before crashing into the next wave!  This one's so fun we may run it twice!  There's opportunities for cliff jumping and body surfing too!

The Bull River - June & July

A fabulous medium volume river, the Bull Boasts one of the most sustained Class 4 whitewater stretches in the Kootenays.  The Upper run alternates with big roller waves, mini canyons and phenomenal scenery, while the lower run consists of big volume class 4 whitewater constricted into a narrow canyon, producing frothy rapids such as 'bubbleliscious', the 'toilet bowl' and 'The sandwich maker'.  Once you have cleansed your adrenal glands though the lower canyon, the landscape opens up for a gorgeous and relaxing 3 km float to the take out.

The Lower Elk river canyon - July August & September

As one of the larger drainages in the Southern Canadian Rockies, the Elk river has great flows all season and warm emerald green water.  This adventure starts off with a panoramic view of   the wigwam flats, a vast protected wildlife refuge.  After a hike down to the river, the rapids start off with a bang, and are interspersed with great scenery and swimming holes along the way.  The crux is the tight rapids guarding Phillips canyon.  Of course there's great cliff jumping and body surfing opportunities as well.
